Free Poker Tips for Beginners

I haven't been playing free poker online very long. My game started after watching the WSOP on the tv and my mates were all playing so I decided to give it a try. I could spend ages checking out how the players were playing and studying their play. Watching on the tv also taught me how to play poker. Im certainly not the best player in the world, but I am confident of being strong when I need to be

For me, learning how to bet was the main task, I picked this up pretty quickly. Then it was all about making bigger and bigger pots. I was starting off slow; just checking when I could so that I could save my money for when I had a really big hand. But they taught me that it was ok to bet small with mediocre hands to try to turn those into big hands and therefore bigger pots.

Next was bluffing. Bluffing is one of the major factors in winning a majority of hands. A person could have pocket jacks and you could have a 4 and a 9 off suit but you can bluff them into folding with the right plays of the money. And even easier if the right cards come up on the flop.

Bluffing, in real life, mostly consists of keeping a straight face while laughing at your opponent. Online, it's just tricking your opposition into playing to your hand.

Finally, learning how to read people and expressions was something I needed to master. I soon picked up how the players on the tv expressed their hands through their facial signals. I can tell when someone is bluffing and when someone has the hand of a lifetime. Not applicable online of course but very good for live games.

Earlier today I had pocket Aces going all-in against an 8 and 10 offsuit. The other guy gets lucky and catches a full house on the turn. It didn't discourage me. Just made me a little wiser.

So, other than playing lots of free poker online, there are also lots of other ways you can learn how to be a great poker player. Try watching as many tournaments on the television as you can and get down to some casinos and give live poker a try. You will soon become a well rounded player and hopefully get some decent money behind you.
